ButiPEARL™ is an encapsulated form of at least 45% calcium butyrate. ButiPEARL™ uses MicroPEARLS™ spray freezing technology, which allows a sustained release of butyric acid along the entire gastrointestinal tract.
Sustained release ensures that every epithelial cell of the entire intestinal tract is able to utilize the butyric acid. This enhances villi growth throughout the length of the gastrointestinal tract, instead of just the upper part of the gut.
Both poultry and swine benefit from enhanced villi growth along the entire length of the gastrointestinal tract that ButiPEARL™ provides. With improved villi structure, it helps in better absorption of nutrients.
Butyric acid is a short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) that is most efficiently used by the epithelial cells of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. It promotes the proliferation – lengthening of the villi and increasing the density of the villi per unit surface area – of intestinal epithelial cells in the GI tract, thereby substantially increasing the surface of absorption of nutrients.
Butyric acid has anti-inflammatory properties. It regulates gene expression by reducing pro-inflammatory cytokines, reducing inflammation-inducing enzymes and increasing heat shock proteins. These translate into better overall intestinal health of the animals. With reduced intestinal inflammation, more energy will be reserved for better animal growth.
Intestinal epithelium is a barrier that prevents loss of water and electrolytes, as well as entry of antigens and microorganisms. When this barrier is disrupted or incomplete, it allows entry of pathogens and toxins, leading to pathological conditions and lowered productivity. At the same time, it triggers the immune system to respond against the foreign antigens and microorganisms. The sequence of events leads to wasteful expense of energy by the animal.
The MicroPEARL™ technology allows the calcium butyrate to be released throughout the entire gastrointestinal tract. Free form calcium butyrate will not be able to arrive at the distal part of the intestine, where it is most needed for nutrient absorption. This technology also allows ButiPEARL™ to be used at a lower dosage compared to the free form calcium butyrate, resulting in an enhanced animal performance in poultry and swine at a significantly lower cost.
