An Encapsulated Lysine for Ruminants
Lysine is an essential amino acid used as a building block in creating protein. Therefore, meeting your cow's lysine requirement is fundamental to the health and wellness of the dairy cow. Lysine and Methionine work in concert, both amino acids are necessary in our diets to achieve the best animal productive performance and optimize the ruminant formulation benefit. LysiGEM™ is a highly efficient rumen protected lysine source providing more intestinally available lysine to the cow.
As a concentrated, consistent and cost-effective source of MP Lysine for dairy cows, LysiGEM™ is a solution that makes a difference.
Why Lysine?
How to Improve Dairy Cow Performance
Lysine is an essential amino acid and must be supplied by the cow's diet as it cannot be produced naturally within the body. Balancing amino acids to meet lysine requirements is a key benefit in achieving maximum milk production while not overfeeding with other expensive nutrients. In addition, when using a rumen-protected lysine to meet the optimum level of lysine, dairy producers may:
- Feed diets lower in crude protein
- Reduce the overall nitrogen excretion from cows into the environment
- Potentially see improved health benefits
The Role of LysiGEM™ in Balancing AA in Dairy Cows
How efficiently the digestible protein is utilised depends directly on the AA profile of the feed. If one AA is in shortage relative to its requirements, the other AA will be utilised inefficiently. As a result, they will be broken down, which increases the nitrogen burden in the dairy cow and impacts the animal’s performance negatively.
Balancing AA in dairy cow diets is becoming more widely accepted among dairy producers. Increased interest in AA balancing is caused by a desire to lower protein diets, high prices for protein supplements, and continued refinement and improvement of nutrition models. Lysine and methionine also play key roles in reproductive efficiency.
Kemin developed LysiGEM™ to address this challenge. This product is a rumen-protected Lysine that offers a cost-effective solution for balancing amino acids in dairy cow diets.
How LysiGEM™ Works
In order to provide a high level of rumen stability, LysiGEM™ is coated with multiple layers of fat. As a result, rumen bypass protein is provided to the lower intestinal tract, where chyme, bile and lipases break the coating down to release L-Lysine, which is absorbed through the intestinal tract. Beyond rumen bypass benefits, LysiGEM™ delivers the amount of bioavailable and digestible Lysine required by a high producing ruminant.
