Kem LAC® LB 500 Microbial Inoculant was specifically formulated to increase aerobic stability of ensiled crops. Kem LAC LB 500 contains a mixture of two bacterial strains, Lactobacillus buchneri (LB) and Lactobacillus plantarum, to help speed fermentation.1
Lactobacillus buchneri organisms are shown to enhance aerobic stability of corn silage and high-moisture corn during feed out. When applied as directed, silage will contain 500,000 colony-forming units per gram (CFU/g) and high-moisture corn will contain 750,000 CFU/g. Kem LAC LB 500 also features a shelf-life-stable formulation, optimum flow characteristics and is highly soluble, even in cold water.
Kem LAC LB 500 provides excellent nutrient retention, improved production efficiency and a rapid pH drop to stabilize forage. All of these improvements in fermentation result in overall less feed waste.
Results from a small silo study showed the formulation of Kem LAC LB 500 decreased (P < 0.05) pH, butyric acid and ammonia-nitrogen levels, while increasing water-soluble carbohydrates, lactic acid and acetic acid, compared to the control silage.2 Aerobic stability of the silage was improved with Kem LAC LB 500 as indicated by lower (P < 0.05) CO2 production when compared with the control silage.
