Kemin was founded by RW and Mary Nelson in 1961 in Des Moines, Iowa, USA, where its worldwide headquarters is located still today. What began in a small sheep barn is now a 26-acre campus with multiple manufacturing plants, administration buildings and a state-of-the-art innovation center.
This site serves as the global headquarters for six of the company’s divisions serving the animal feed and food industries as well as the health, nutrition and beauty markets. In 2010, Kemin announced a five-year, $30 million expansion to its Des Moines campus that will add 25 additional acres to enhance its manufacturing, research and corporate facilities.
In addition to its worldwide headquarters in Des Moines, Kemin owns and operates a spray-dried meat protein manufacturing facility in Verona, Missouri. Ingredients manufactured in this facility are used in premium and super premium pet food.
Kemin also has additional manufacturing in Hereford, Texas, and Hitchcock, Texas, established in close proximity to feedlots in the southwestern portion of the country.
